The Game Needs Her
The Black Women’s Player Collective is made up of women in football who have come together to transform the game we see today for generations to come. We understand that when we play the game the world watches, and by changing the game for black women we can change the world. Through our collective power, perspectives and platforms we will shift the narrative and demand equity in a sport that was intended for all.
We have all played the game our entire lives and witnessed the inequity that persists within and out of it. Through each of our personal journeys we have all come to recognize the need to change the game for girls who look like us. We are over 50 professional athletes whose unique journeys all led them to this point of dedication to progressing the world of football because #TheGameNeedsHer
A More Beautiful Game
This is all about exposing Black women and girls to the world of soccer and the opportunities that can come with it. We emphasize how through soccer she’s growing in confidence, strengthening her self-esteem, opening doors to college, visiting different countries, meeting new people and building life-long friendships.
The Red Card Against Racism
Racism isn’t just systemic, it’s individual. In the play to pay model- young Black girls experience racism first hand from teammates and parents. They don't cheer loud enough for her, they don’t shake her hand, they don’t celebrate her differences, they don’t treat her as an equal. These actions get in the way of her passion. We at the Black Women’s Player Collective are dedicated to confronting the systemic issues that hold back Black women by confronting actions that deny access, limit representation and deepen inequality in all aspects of society.
Expose, Educate & ElevatE
We’re in this for the long run to break barriers, progress the game and support her passion for soccer. We will Expose generations to the many possibilities’ soccer can bring to your life. We’ll Educate individuals on how to overcome challenges we have faced ourselves and we will Elevate her in every way each young girl deserves to be supported and empowered. We don’t want to just see her play the game, we want her to embrace her full potential through the game because we recognize #TheGameNeedsHer and she needs the game.
